If you want to learn a little bit more about guns and firearm rights but don’t have a lot of time to read news and blog sites?
Podcasts provide a way to stay on top of niche topics without really having to do too much work. Below is a list of the top 14 gun podcasts we found on our own journey to gain a better understanding of guns and second amendment rights.
Action Shooting Podcast – Even though this site has only produced three podcasts since July 2009, the site itself is a great resource for photos, news and information.
Down Range Radio – A weekly supplement to Down Range Television, founded by TV personality and journalist Michael Bane.
Firearms Café – A monthly look into crime, guns, politics and gun culture with Tony.
Gun Nuts Radio – A weekly podcast that goes live once a week with a wide array of guests. It’s pro-gun (hence the name) and very political.
Gun Review Podcast – This podcast has a different type of format. It works off of user-submitted reviews of various guns and updates about once a month.
Gun Rights Radio – Dedicated to upholding and preserving the Second Amendment right, this activist radio show firmly believes: “It’s not about guns, it’s about freedom.”
Gun Talk Radio – Each week Gun Talk posts three separate podcasts that cover its three-hour show, hosted by Tom Gresham, which covers firearms, personal safety and gun rights.
Pro-Arms Podcast – This is an assembled group of gun experts who gather weekly to discuss new topics and firearms, giving ‘no-holds-barred’ views and reviews.
The Urban Shooter – Hosted by author, instructor and activist Kenn Blanchard, The Urban Shooter provides weekly commentary mixing in humor, guests, gun safety and more.
The Shooting Bench – New Mexico’s Ross Sporting Goods, which has been around for 54 years, produces this once-a-week podcast.
The Survival Podcast – While it’s not strictly a firearms podcast, the daily show does dive into gun discussions and it frequently has shows that would be helpful for any gun owner.
Vicious Circle – This snark-filled look into the gun world includes topics like sniper etiquette, favorite movies, politics and a gang of firearm bloggers from around the web-o-sphere.
We’re back with extended SHOT Show coverage … the kind that makes you feel like you’re actually there — blazing down the bustling show concourse doing meet and greets like a pro and dealing out your business cards like free all-you-can-eat buffet coupons. Er, or something like that.
Day two brought on a barrage of awesome twitpics uploaded to Twitter. Our favorite? Bacon-flavored lip balm (pictured below). According to ShakaTweet, the Shaka Laka lip balm is a limited edition that’s being distributed at the show. So, get bacon lips while you still can!
Martial arts master Steven Seagal made an appearance at the ArmorWorks booth and called the SHOT show “amazing.” “It’s probably the greatest gathering of special technology for police and military that I’ve ever seen in one place,” he said. Watch Mr. Seagal promote the aptly named “Seagal Tactical Gear” line.
Meanwhile Field & Stream, who posted this gem about booth babes last year, is broadcasting live from the show. Here’s yesterday’s footage that features new guns, gear and, um, autographed panties.
Magpul’s truck creation is also turning a lot of heads at the show. “Looks like it’s just like their gear — it’s gonna go anywhere and do anything.”
And now onto the guns… the much-hyped Smith & Wesson’s Bodyguard line.
Outdoor Channel’s Michael Bane chats up Corey Gumbert about Beretta’s new TX4 home security firearm, “a tactical shotgun with a very famous, old name on it.”
Land Warrior also had some new products on display including the new M6 SPR, which we should expect to see out in the middle of 2010.
Watch Bill Wahn from First Light USA demo a pretty sweet tactical and home defense light system.
Oh, and for those who didn’t stop by the 2010 Advanced Armament SHOT Show party at the Voodoo Lounge at Rio, you missed 50 plus Maxim girls dancing like this…

Remember the web application Pimp My Gun? Well if you don’t, it’s a flash-based application that allows you to virtually sculpt the gun of your dreams.
We wrote about it last November, and we’re mentioning it again today because it just underwent a major update. This weekend creator Dr. Noob alerted us that he has successfully installed Pimp My Gun 0.7.
With an option to play either the new or old version, the site’s latest app features an a complete overhaul of the Pimp My Gun software though there aren’t many guns available yet, according to Dr. Noob. “Over time I will add the old content along with much more new stuff,” he posted on the site’s changelong.
Update: Dr. Noob tells us that the new version contains better editing options such as grouping, multi-selection and custom colors. As for the graphics…
“That’s kinda of Skipper’s ‘fault,’” he writes. “He sent me his guns, and they looked really good compare to the crap PMG had at that time. Kudos to him for pushing me to make something better.”
Check out a video that demonstrates the updated version. Now it’s time to go pimp your own virtual gun!
And here’s a video of some custom guns created with the web application.
You’ve seen what they’ve done to hoopties on MTV. Now you can do it yourself virtually with a new online application called “Pimp My Gun.”
While you won’t be able to paint hot orange and yellow flames or add anything too wild (like on Pimp My Ride when a surfer dude got a clothes dryer installed in his Volkswagen Bus), you can still play with a handful of accessories.
The flash application, which is still under construction, allows gun enthusiasts to create weapon systems from scratch or make additions to guns that already exist.
From pistols to sniper rifles to machine guns, the selection of guns is as wide as the accessories you can explore. The app offers flip-up sights, scopes, tactical grips, rail systems, bipods, flash hiders, silencers, stocks, magazines and more. And if you’re wondering, about 10% of the guns are designed by 17-year-old Skipper Lee Yin Pin, the rest by the site’s owner Dr. Noob.
Not seeing your favorite weapon? The application’s creator encourages those with specific requests to just send him an email.
And without further ado, let the gun pimping begin…
After spending two-and-a-half years fighting for the right to bear arms, 46-year-old James Cap was awarded a gun permit last week.
Why was he fighting for these rights? His condition as a quadriplegic made some question his ability to handle a firearm, especially because of his proposed set up. In order to aim and fire, he would need to breathe through the tube of a special device, which would have to be set up by a friend.
According to The Star-Ledger, Superior Court Judge John Pursel told Mr. Cap “I hope you enjoy the use of your firearm” right before signing the order. While the judge ruled in Mr. Cap’s favor, the debate on whether a person who is physically unable to shoot a gun should be permitted to use one.
On the story comments section on NJ.com, one person writes, “The police chief who originally denied the permit was correct. This guy (Cap) is an accident waiting to happen.”
Another commenter over at Huffington Post showed support for Mr. Cap, writing: “Thank god for some judges that understand what the Constitution actually SAYS!”
The Young Turks called the ruling “absurd” and said “I can’t have you pulling a trigger by breathing. What if you sneeze?” See the opinion commentary video below.
What do you think about Mr. Cap’s personal victory?
With a clever name and a repository of government information about concealed carry laws, iBearArms has its sights set on becoming the mobile resource for gun owners on the go.
Updated last week, iBearArms offers information on state laws for concealed weapons and other helpful tidbits such as forbidden areas, permit costs as well as government maps, phone numbers and a FAQs section.
At a cost of $2.99, the app has been extraordinarily helpful to those whose states are covered, but has garnered some criticism for not covering all 50 states.
“I would easily pay 10 times the asking price if this application included all the states,” Zion8343 wrote on AppStoreHQ.com. “This app has the potential to be the definitive CCW firearms guide — especially since it takes the information directly from the state resources.”
Despite coverage setbacks, iBearArms appears to be gaining a lot of momentum. The application appeared in the top 100 paid apps this week — two months after its release!
Blogs and forums are buzzing about the redesigned fourth-generation Glock, set for release in 2010.
Richard over at Gun Holsters and Gear says the new Glock, or the “Next Generation of Perfection,” is rumored to have an adjustable grip for hands of all shapes and sizes as well as a textured finish.
AccurateShooter.com mentions that grip on Glock handguns has been a point of contention for some time. Glocks have been manufactured by Glock GmbH in Austria since 1963. The company’s is known for its strike-fired polymer-framed pistols.
“Glock has been losing market share as police departments nationwide have traded in their Glocks in favor of the more ergonomic Smith M&Ps,” said the editor at AccurateShooter.
When the fourth-gen G22 RTF2 Glock was first released this year, Steve at The Firearms Blog wrote: “I think 3rd gen glocks will be considered the ‘classic’ and having an older one will be ‘cool.’”
Will the newly redesigned Glock make it into the ‘cool’ category?
