Tactical Gear News was lucky enough to interview two very important people at Gould & Goodrich–Robert Gould, former owner, and Scott Nelson, new president. In February 2012, Gould announced the new leadership and explained it was a necessary change.

“I was a pilot light and we needed a furnance,” Gould said of the recent sale. He and his business partner, John Goodrich, bought the company from Smith & Wesson back in the late 1980s.

In addition to learning the company’s history, Nelson talked about the trends in the industry and how they were addressing them. Impressed with the foundation of Gould & Goodrich, Nelson shared that there were no major changes for the company in the future.

Fox has recently banned any advertisements that feature ammunition or firearms during UFC events. The National Shooting Sports Foundation is urging gun enthusiasts to speak out and let Fox know their feelings on this policy. For contact information, read the full article.

Have you heard the one about Fox banning firearms and ammunitions adverts? Actually, this one isn’t a joke.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has just discovered that Fox Sports Media Group will not run any advertisements featuring firearms and ammunition during the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events.

No official statement has been released from the UFC, but NSSF has confirmed that “absolutely no firearms, ammo, hunting or knife companies will be permitted as sponsors in any Zuffa-promoted events.”

NSSF is calling all gun enthusiasts to rally against this ban. The Daily Caller writes, “Fox’s decision to ban advertisements for lawful products owned by more than 80 million Americans is nothing more than corporate gun control. We expect better from Fox. So should you.”

If you just so happen to be a firearms enthusiast want to urge Fox to rescind this policy, you can contact them at 310-369-1000 or through their website. Or you can always write an old fashioned letter and snail mail it to:

Who knew Fresno was full of advertising geniuses? Recent gun-related ads have made their way to the airwaves. Parodied after animal shelter commercials, the radio spots have encouraged residents to give abused guns a home. Read the full post for clips and news story.

“They’ve been mistreated and misunderstood for generations,” begins the Fresno radio commercial. “Abusive owners have done severe damage and given these beautiful creatures a bad reputation.”

The unassuming commuter may think that ad is trying to find foster homes for animals. In actuality, the parody of the infamous ASPCA commercials aims to stir up some attention for a local gun shop, PRK Arms. Is it working? The CBS 47 News reports that it is.

Of course, the ad has stirred up some controversy among the antis. They state that it is misleading. But they have to give credit where it is due… the radio ads are pretty darn clever.

In probably one of the most blatant displays of Apple abuse, this dude decided to blast through an iPhone 4s with a .50 cal armor piercing round. Yes… there is a slow motion portion to the video. And yes, it is really cool even though it may send at least one Apple fanboy into a psychotic break. Enjoy!

Something tells us this guy will not be making any visits to Cupertino in the near future.

The outer appearance of a firearm may change day-to-day with the addition of accessories, but the barrel size of that gun won't change. That's the reasoning behind the innovative Versa Carry. For more information on this concealed carry holster, check out this post.

Touted as the most versatile inside the waist band holster, Versa Carry offers an innovative way to concealed carry every day. How you ask? These holsters hold the gun in place from the barrel.

But what does this mean for you? It means you can totally trick out that firearm (lasers and what have you) and won’t have to utilize multiple gun holsters. Also, you can interchange it with handguns of the same caliber. If they have the same barrel size, only one Versa Carry product should need to be used.

Features include:

Ambidextrous

Works with every accessory combination

Works with most guns of the same caliber

Less holster bulk

Perfect for concealment

Easy breezy on/off clip

Made of Kydex

Still relatively new, the Versa Carry has already been reviewed in a couple of places. Check out the Average Joe’s Handgun Reviews, the Armory Blog, Gun Nuts Media and Shooting Illustrated.

Although lightweight, comfortable and easy to use, the Versa Carry method does have a few areas for improvement. It can’t be utilized with a chambered round and it lacks any trigger protection as of yet. Translation—you had better be experienced in concealed carry. According to the Armory Blog, Versa Carry is developing a trigger guard that remains ambidextrous.

Would you feel comfortable holstering with the Versa Carry?

Gould & Goodrich have a number of backup weapon holsters that can be worn on the ankle or even worn over boots. In these recently uploaded videos, Phyllis and Bob Gould highlight the features of these holsters.

Gould & Goodrich have been producing quality holster and gun accessories for decades. Police officers, tactical operators and concealed carry permit holders often purchase items, such as the B416 Bootlock Holster. This is the first ankle holster that goes over the boot. The boot carries the weight of the backup weapon so that you are comfortable all day.

The holster can be worn a number of ways on the boot. The boot laces go through the eyelets to hold the holster. Its profile is lower meaning it is much more concealable. The holster is available in two sizes and right- and left-handed variations.

The B516 Ankle Holster is lightweight, Neoprene wrap is softer and more flexible than nylon. The inner padding is made of genuine sheep skin, which provides more comfort while wearing it. It accommodates most small to medium framed weapons. It’s available in right and left hand styles.

Another useful ankle accessory is the B316 Ankle Carrier, which can hold cuffs and magazines. It compliments both the B516 and B416 perfectly. Also made of Neoprene, it will stay put once its secured to the ankle.

How would you like to be remembered? If you're a hunter, you may want to look into the services of Holy Smoke. They offer you the chance to "hunt" even after you have passed.

It’s hard to say goodbye to a loved one; there’s no doubt about that. One company is offering a less conventional approach to memorialize them.

Holy Smoke is a company that takes cremated remains and loads it into ammunition. The idea came from a conversation held between two game wardens. They were discussing a relative’s passing and eventually segued into their own deaths. Did they prefer burial or cremation?

It was at this point the two shared that they would both like to be a part of nature after their demises. One shared the desire to be cremated and have the ashes spread in nature. The other conversationalist had quite a different idea.

“My friend smiled and said, ‘You know I’ve thought about this for some time, and I want to be cremated. Then I want my ashes put into some turkey load shotgun shells and have someone that knows how to turkey hunt use the shotgun shells with my ashes to shoot a turkey. That way I will rest in peace knowing that the last thing that one turkey will see is me, screaming at him at about 900 feet per second.”

A company was born from that conversation. The employees of Holy Smoke crafted a way to create special ammunition infused with loved ones’ ashes. The standard charge is $1,250, which purchases one of the following options: shotgunner – 250 shotshells; rifle shooter – 100 cartridges in standard calibers; pistol shooter: 250 cartridges in standard calibers.

The ammo itself can even be memorialized. Holy Smoke offers a finished, handcrafted wooden box with labels.

What do you think about Holy Smoke?

Rifle modifications... everybody loves them. One gun enthusiast shared his latest Magpul conversion with us here at the Gun Holsters Blog. In addition to this, he has incorporated various other pieces to the AR 15 Bushmaster. Check out the story for pictures and specs.

Who doesn’t love a good Magpul conversion? Whether a weight or performance issue, people have swapped in Magpul parts throughout the years. Recently, one gun owner shared his recent upgrades to his “Frankenstein” rifle. He said that the military grade forearm and butt-stock decreased its overall weight by a couple of pounds. A few pounds can make a big difference if you have to lug your rifle around for any extended period of time.

If you have a firearm that you love, you most likely have made a few modifications to it over the years. While in the beginning it was a standard AR-15 Bushmaster XM15 E2S, it has been lovingly renovated, piece-by-piece.

The forearm and foregrip were replaced with Magpul mil-spec pieces. The owner shared that he thought the material was solid without being too heavy. The foregrip is angled and ergonomic.

He also switched out the butt-stock with another mil-spec piece. He explained that he had broken the latch on his old stock and had been meaning to replace it for a few years. Judging by his positive reaction to the pieces, the gun may soon boast more Magpul.

Along with the more recent additions, he has made a number of modifications to the weapon including incorporating the M4 upper. We all know of the pull of the carbine. In fact, the gun owner explained that the recent mod had made the feel of the rifle much more “carbine.”

Did we mention the Tri Power scope? Well here’s what it looks like mounted. If you have one of these bad boys on your side, your shot should be pretty clear. It has three light sources: Integrated Fiber Optics System, Tritium-Illuminated reticle and battery backup.

Have you ever modified your firearms? What did you replace/swap out?

Safety Lesson: Guns, Dwight Schrute & “The Office”

Many offices do not allow it's employees to open carry, conceal carry or bring weapons of any kind into the workplace. In a recent episode of The Office, Dwight exemplifies why so many employers choose have to ban weapons from their premises. Dwight does have an awesome gun holster though.

Not all firearms are suitable for open carry. Take for instance the Beaumont-Adams revolver featured in this clip from The Office.

Yes, yes — we know it’s a fictional television show, but it does provide lesson. Antique guns are for display, not for twirling. While you’re at it, refrain from twirling any gun altogether.

That is, unless you want to end up like Dwight, who loses his promotion. Perhaps if he had just holstered the gun safely, he would have kept his temporary position as branch manager.

Now about that sweet gun holster … did anyone catch what brand it was?
